It is currently being reported that 15%-50% of all soldiers coming home qualify for PTSD or some other sub-clinical versions along the trauma continuum. Additionally, there are a high numbers of incidences of extended family issues ranging from secondary PTSD, abuse, addiction, marital issues, children with anxiety, depression, and grief to name a few.

This 'high level' workshop (101) is designed to help prepare mental health professionals who want to learn more about the Military Culture so they are better able to work with today's returning war veterans.

The class introduces military culture and the impact of the warrior culture in the dimensions that are most relevant to clinicians with essential knowledge in order to gain credibility with veterans and their extended family members. It will help provide profile information about the military to better understand the background and framework of issues potentially presented to you in therapy; it will distinguish between Combat Stress and PTSD and explores sub-clinical presentations of PTSD. A portion of the class will briefly discuss insurance related matters and military providers. Finally, the class will review the CareForTheTroops non-profit organization and their efforts to train clinicians and providing them with information, reference material, other support resources, and tools to support clinician's on-going work with military families.

You will leave the workshop with copies of the charts presented, a packet of related handouts, CareForTheTroops brochure material, and access to a number of website links and reference material.
